What Are TIG Welding Rods?

TIG Rod is used in Tungsten Inert Gas welding, where a non-consumable Tungsten Electrode carries the arc, and TIG Wire is used to supply the filler metal. TIG Wire is a consumable to the process.

These are a pound (1lb) of 36" Stainless Steel TIG Rods with 3/32" Diameter, E316L AWS Classification

316L - TIG rod, high-alloyed, high corrosion resistant. Avesta 316L is designed for welding austenitic stainless steel of type 17 Cr 12 Ni 2.5 Mo or similar. The filler metal is also suitable for welding titanium and niobium stabilized steels such as ASTM 316Ti and ASTM 316Nb in cases where the construction is used at temperatures not exceeding 400 °C.

Features

  • Structure: Austenite with 5-10% ferrite
  • Scaling temperature: Approx. 850 °C (air)
  • Corrosion resistance: Excellent resistance to general, pitting and intercrystallite corrosion in chloride containing environments.

Applications

  • Welding austenitic stainless steel of type 17 Cr 12 Ni 2.5 Mo or similar
  • Welding titanium and niobium stabilized steels in cases where the construction is used at temperatures not exceeding 400 °C. For higher temperatures, a niobium stabilized consumable is required.
  • Available with high silicon content
  • Intended for severe service conditions.
